Meet Nicole

I am a mixed media artist and photographer living in the Austin, Texas, area. After returning to school and finishing my degree in 2017 at Iowa State University, I created this website and began my YouTube channel. I started making Mother's Day and Father's day car

I started making Mother's Day and Father's day cards after doing the math of how expensive cards were as a newlywed (As I had just gained more parents and grandparents!). This year I was not feeling overly creative...and then I glanced over at my latest #mixedmediamenagerie spread. The collage I created in the center was perfect to recreate for little fun pieces of art to send out.

These are almost exact to the original, except I added some spray painted stencil on deli paper from @istencilsonline. I just love that text stencil behind the flower I drew and painted. I also added a backing to the flashcard with some stampin up cardstock and a single flower.

I was so excited (and nervous!) when I was asked to paint these two homes for a mother's day gift. I've only painted local Austin area homes handed off from my hands to the recepient, so I think I held my breath the entire time these made their way from my studio to the eastern US.

These houses hold so many memories - and it was so sweet the ones shared with me before painting them. It is such an honor and a gift to caputre a watercolor version of homes, whether full of memories or just beginning. My client found me through @loverenovations posting the watercolors her husband commissioned me to paint for a Christmas gift. Thanks so much Amanda for sharing your paintings!!

It was definately special to paint a new style of home from the typical Texas house! I loved capturing all the unique shrubs and landscape around the white house. The cute 2-story home with the front porch reminded me so much of my grandparents' northern Minnesota house. My grandparents had a large watercolored version of their house on the wall and I often stared at it as a young girl - never imaging I'd also be painting these some day. What a fun memory!

Thanks for the honor of capturing these homes. It is never lost on me the gift that it is to be trusted to create for someone else.

Hello! Today I'm the guest artist for @artfoamies. Don't you just love it when your vision turns out even better than you planned? Going into creating these pages, I had two ideas in mind. First, I wanted to use the ArtFoamies butterfly wings as flaps to tuck little words under and second, I wanted to use the saying "use your wings" on the pages. How I would achieve this, completely surprised me as my color palette and layout were very different in my mind!

It's #mixedmediamenagerie time! You "MAY" (get it?

It's #mixedmediamenagerie time! You "MAY" (get it??) have noticed the April videos were missing...we decided to change our schedule a tiny bit to make things a little less confusing. We moved the last week of April video to the first Wednesday of May. Now, the entire challenge will be in the month of May. (more information in instastories).

This month's challenge was to use cool colors, a toothbrush, texture stamp and paint markers to create pages that reflected the theme of rain. (link in bio to my video!)

I used the ephemera pack, cool colors with Dina Wakley acrylic and FW ink to create my rain drop pages. To finish, I topped the denim page front and back with collages...but what you don't see or hear is that I actually created these pages during a 3-day rain storm! How fun was it to create about rain while it was raining outside my studio window!

A new 30 minute spread and a little quick announce

A new 30 minute spread and a little quick announcement. I opened up my amazon storefront this week, so if you'd like to try the YUMMY spray paint or any of the other supplies I've constantly reached for on my 30 minute journey, there is a list of (most) of them at my storfront (link in bio!) There is also a link to iStencils, my most reached for and favorite stencils. I apprecite your support so much! I've been working a lot behind the scenes over here...and I can't wait to share more soon.

Now, onto the page...Of course I had to play with the big number @artfoamies for the right side of this spread! After adding a little grunge, I wanted to soften the page with a flower, so I used deli paper, spray paint and this stencil from @istencilsonline.

Then, when I was editing the video (on YouTube, link in bio) I wish I had used two flowers. Hop over to watch the video and let me know what you think...should I have used two flowers like I played with in the video? Ugh! Sometimes watching yourself create afterwards is a curse...but it also gives me ideas of what to play with next!

I rarely use only red as a main color on a page, but a bit of red paint on my background layer caught my attention, so I went with it. Plus, lots of layers, a large artfoamie, and old photo, lots of ephemera/leftovers from previous pages and some rust dyed fabric (thanks @lauramixedmedia from our menagerie drop!) all came together for this fun 30 minute page. now I need more rusty fabric! I also pulled out a krink marker... I need more colors in these! I absolutely love the large graphic of the numbers artfoamie (highly recommend!).

These guys standing in front of the old car made me laugh...and I found the perfect sticker for on top. Don't you think? Check out the process video on my YouTube channel (link in bio).

If you've been following along on my 30 minute jou

If you've been following along on my 30 minute journey, you know that I like to match my left and right pages. Oftentimes, I end up trying a new way of creating a similar page on the right. That's what happened here. Isn't art AMAZING? seriously, the possibilities are endless. Here is my encouragement to you today: even if you don't feel creative, try "redoing" a page that you loved (or even one you hated!) in a new, different way!

For this page, I used the clean off reverse image of the stencil from the exercise before, along with an artfoamie and the same colors as the exercise before, too! When I thought it was finished, it still felt like it needed something, so I stuck a couple vintage page scraps on top for the perfect adition!

Life has been crazy...including some insane hail h

Life has been crazy...including some insane hail here making yet another thing to add to the (no fun house stuff) to do list (roof inspection + new roof!) However, I finally found some time for art.

I have several 30 mintute pages to share over the next week or two, and I'm working on a couple watercolor comissions along with some fun soon to be shared things. I'm trying to take this week off with my husband to celebrate our 20th anniversary! (we were 12 when we got married! 😉) Since we can't travel due to our cat, we are buying trees, house things, and taking some day trips.

I started this page wanting to use the new spray paint color I purchased and the new golden color I grabbed at the same time (smalt!). I decided that when I order art supplies, I'm going to try a new color of paint or two each time. Then, I had the urge to just get my fingers in paint and blend...and the sudden need to draw some of my leaf shapes. 30 minutes later and this page was finished. video of my process up on YouTube (link in bio), enjoy!

Grab your sunglasses and check out the bright, bold, spring flower power! This is what happens when you combine fluorescent, a flower stencil, glass bead gel, deli paper and fun supplies from Erin for the March edition of #mixedmediamenagerie

After opening those fun supplies and realizing I was almost at the center spread of my journal, I had an idea! Watch the video (link in my bio to my YouTube channel) to see how I used some fuzzy beads to create a fun bookmark in the center of my journal. I grabbed a bunch of flower stencils and decided on this BOLD marigold stencil from @iStencilsOnline plus used one of my favorite word stencils, both with spray paint.
